Ballhandling is an extremely important part of the game for every position. Remember ballhandling is not just dribbling, it involves catching the ball, passing the ball, and taking care of it without losing it. Think of ballhandling like giving away money. Each bounce you take, you giving away money. So you definitley want to be a good ballhandler, and dribble no more than necessary. Here are a few tips about ballhandling: Keep Your Palms Clean: Only dribble the ball with your fingertips, not the palm. When playing basketball outside, it is simple to tell if you have been dribbling correctly. Your palm should be relatively clean, while your fingerpads should be dirty. Keep Your Head UP: Make sure to keep your head up when you dribble. This is very important, if your head is down you can't see where your going. Ballhandling Drills, Tips, and Descriptions: 1)Try dribbling with ankle weights on your wrists, and garden gloves on your hands. The gloves give you a great feel for the ball, and the weights make your hands lightning fast. 2)Beat Your Shadow: Go outside where your shadow is highly visible. Do every move you can think of to try to shake your shadow. Obviously you won't be get by it, but you can get alot better handles buy doing this. 3) Dribbling A Tennis Ball: Just dribble around like you would with a basketball. Try to do this as much as possible 4)Dark Dribbling: While standing in a dark room or at night just dribble and do all the moves you can think of. That way you aren't looking at the ball when you are dribbling. 5) Try dribbling around cones and doing moves at each cone. | |
